Call to arms

(right, Recognize anyone? Pictured are racers and support crew for 2 Canaan relay teams circa 1998.)

Tripower has deep roots in mountain bike endurance relays. JB recently sent a call to arms to revive the relay spirit. I dug through the archives and found some images that may motivate some of us to get involved with Virginia events coming such as 12 hours of Cranky Monkey at Quantico and 18 Hours of Goochland near Richmond.

These 2 were part of the first generation of solo 24 hour racing. Nolan and Mann were both Tripower members when they competed in the solo category at Canaan:

Here are some images of those who were my teammates during the 3 years that I did 24 hours of Canaan. We formed composite teams from several clubs in order to get the best results. To be honest, I don't even remember the names of a few of those pictured below. 24 hours goes by quickly, afterall:

Is that Marco on a podium? Feels like so many yesterdays ago.

Great pics. I'm up for some relay if the weekend works.

Very nice! The Monkey is calling your name......

Amazing how 24 hours can seem like an eternity in the thick of the battle, then weeks later the day is reduced to a blink of an eye.

Like sands through the hourglass - those are the Rides of Our Lifes.

But where is el Presidente'? Is that him with the orange hair?

Yes, that is Marco. JB, I searched diligently but could find no pics of John on site at the relays. He was there for at least 2 of them--I think Ivor and for sure Canaan.

Yes, the 24 hours is quite intense and then it does become a blink but that 2 weeks that it takes me to recover sure registers more than a blink.

Ah the good ol' days!

Oddly enough, even though I have said repeatedly that I would never do another one of those, I think I volunteered for a 18 hour race this August @ Camp Hilbert.
